White Horse owner John Harris is English. Really. Lucky for us here, he always secretly harbored the notion of one day owning a real English pub in a New England village. One day in 2010, he and his partner Lisa jumped in and bought a defunct restaurant building on the Little Aspetuck River...and took it apart right down to the 2x4s. Literally. (I saw it.)
A year and about a bazillion dollars later, The White Horse emerged from the sawdust to immediate rave reviews for food, design sensibility, and comfort. And since that time there hasn't been an open parking space along that stretch of Rt. 202 at any time of the day.
The White Horse receives press accolades and awards every year like clockwork, including Best Pub Statewide, and Best Classic Pub in New England, using the freshest local ingredients in each season. A friendly and energetic young staff doesn't hurt either. Go there!
